There are many different kinds of crystal figurines and each person collects them for their own unique reasons. They can be large figurines that are a conversation piece by themselves, or even small delicate ones that can be found in sets. If you are thinking about collecting figurines for your own curio cabinet, there are some things you should know. Not all are created equal and not all of them are made of quality Swarovski crystal. There are some specific reasons a crystal figurine bears the Swarovski name.

First of all, Swarovski crystal spells luxury. Daniel Swarovski was born in what is now the Czech Republic and his father owned a small glass factory where Daniel did an apprenticeship as a young man. It was here that he learned the art of glass cutting, but didn't make crystal figurines just yet. He did, however, invent a machine that used electricity to precision cut crystal glass, which he patented in 1892. By 1895 financiers Armand Kosman and Franz Weis took an interest in Swarovski's work and founded the Swarovski Company, originally called A. Kosman, Daniel Swarovski & Co., but later shortened to K.S. & Co. The company decided to take advantage of the hydroelectricity available in Wattens, where they set up a factory for the energy-intensive process of grinding glass.
Swarovski made his crystal from glass with a higher lead content, which enhanced the prismatic effects and overall quality of the material. His pursuit of flawless crystal created a benchmark for quality that is unsurpassed today. Only crystal made with the exacting standards and intense specifications of Daniel Swarovski can be called Swarovski crystal. But the quality comes at a price. These figurines are not cheap; some cost more than one hundred dollars and there are sets that can cost well over $500.
Now here are just some of the crystal figurines that are available for you to collect. Starting with animal figurines, there are over thirty different varieties to choose from. There is a mother pig with suckling piglets, for example. There are many different varieties of bears, in all kinds of different positions. You can find Teddy Bears riding a see-saw, circus Teddy bears and even bears riding a surfboard. There are many polar bears as well and you should collect some of these, since they may soon be extinct in real life. There are dogs of almost any breed and even elephants. If you like rabbits, then you won't have any trouble finding one that fits your fancy. And if you're truly fanciful, there is a unicorn to complete the set.

If you are interested in some truly intricate designs, then try some birds and butterflies. These are so delicate and unique that you might think they would fly right off the stand they are on. There are even birds in houses, on perches and in their own baths. There is also a large assortment of undersea crystal figurines to choose from; dolphins playing, crystal penguins and even palm trees, light houses and crystal treasure chests. There are also some rather unique crystal figurine designs like the Enterprise from Star Trek, ocean liners and much, much more.
These beautiful crystal figurines are made right here in the United States. Yes, they use the same patented process handed down from the Swarovski family and are able to say that they produce Swarovski crystal. Each piece is meticulously designed and inspected to assure it lives up to the Swarovski crystal standard. No matter what kind of crystal figurine strikes your fancy, you are sure to find it.
